Shitodome for kurikata

Shitodomé were designed to fit into the hole on the sides of the Kurikata and the Kashira in order to limit the fraying of the silk cord as it passes through the holes and also to add a little bit of glitter to an otherwise dark colored part.

Shitodomé can be found on many fine quality Japanese swords produced in the 'old days'. Because Shitodomé need to fit into a tight & small hole in the water Buffalo horn Kurikata, there is a tendency for them to bend easily and as such, restrict the free passage of Sageo and in most cases, totally deny their passage.
